TGC Columbus April Fellowship

April 11, 2018

10:30am – 12:30pm

Pastoral ministry is uniquely rewarding and challenging.  Because it is both of these things simultaneously, we understand (and feel) the need to endure and thrive as we minister over the course of many years.  We are no one's Messiah.  That honor and burden is Jesus' alone to bear.  We are, however, instruments that He uses to glorify Himself through the restoration and transformation of worshipers.  He delights in us and purposes to use us in His wise and kind providence.

We will spend the rest of 2018 and the first half of 2019 focusing on important and practical components of enduring and thriving ministry.  A good deal of our direction will be drawn from Resilient Ministry, a very important study turned book developed over the course of several years drawing from the experience and insight of many pastors/ministry leaders just like us.  Steve Resch led us through a cursory introduction to this work a couple of years ago and we'd now like to come back to its themes in a more comprehensive way.  The purpose of the study (and book) was not so much to determine critical ministry skills.  Rather, the researchers/authors sought to identify the factors that successful ministry leaders (carefully defined) gave attention to that led to their ability to thrive.

We have purchased a number of copies of this book that we will be giving you as a gift as you participate in our upcoming fellowships.  We recognize that it is often difficult to make it every month, but we'd love for you to join us as often as you're able.

If you are experiencing the joyful heights of ministry or, conversely, the slog of routine marked by frustration and disappointment (or, likely, somewhere in-between), we invite you to join us.  If you haven't been able to join us in a while, this would be a great time to jump back in.  We want to endure and thrive together over the course of many years and we are hopeful that our fellowships in the coming months will be of great encouragement to you.  We encourage those with many years of ministry under their belts to participate as well as those just getting started.  We each will have things to contribute and learn from one another.  We will have several different leaders with years of experience directing our discussions and, as always, we will be purposeful to look at all of this through the lens of Gospel hope.

Our intended schedule for the upcoming months will be as follows (please remember that we do not meet formally during the summer months, but rather meet informally for fellowship over lunch):
